HOWO a big winner in Russia truck market
According to record of Russian Customs, in the first 8 months of 2007, Russia imported 8,408 units heavy duty trucks (≥20tons) of which there were 4,045 units China made trucks. The 4,045 trucks are mainly dump trucks. Sinotruk was a big winner in the Sino-Russia truck business. In the 4,045 trucks, there were 2237 Howo dumpers, 163 tractors and 113 special purpose trucks. According to expectation of Russia local dealers, the number in 2008 can be 4,000 units.
There are many reasons why Chinese trucks are so hot in Russia. Firstly, Chinese trucks are Cheap. Price of a HOWO dumper is almost half money of a Germany Man dumper. Secondly, China and Russia are neighbor countries, Chinese trucks can be driven to Russia in days. Thirdly, drive cab of Chinese trucks are more comfortable than most Russian trucks. The last but not least, many Chinese truck makers will fulfill customer’s demand and make the truck body according to their requirements, and this allows the possibility of truck overloading. Many Russian customers like this, because it brings much more profit though truck overloading does do much damages to road and bridge.
However, Chinese truck makers should face the following problems in their exportation.
Firstly, standardize truck body size. Now that, truck overloading will do great damage to road and bridge and what’s more very dangerous, fight with overloading becomes a social responsibility.
Secondly, build after-sale service networks and set up spare parts storage center in local area.
