Volvo Reports 52% Surge In February Truck Deliveries
Volvo Group reported on Tuesday that total deliveries of trucks from four of its truck companies, Mack, Nissan Diesel, Renault Trucks, and Volvo Trucks, amounted to 22,100 vehicles, which is an increase of 52%, compared to 14,313 vehicles with the year-earlier period.
Mack deliveries in February totaled 1,334 vehicles, down 12% compared with the year earlier period, reflecting ongoing sluggishness in the U.S. economy and weakness in the U.S. housing construction, in particular. Renault Trucks deliveries in February totaled 7,696 trucks, up 38% compared with the year-earlier period.
Volvo Trucks' deliveries during February amounted to 8,907 vehicles, up 23% compared with the year-earlier period. The overall volume growth is explained by increased production rates. Nissan Diesel's deliveries during February amounted to 4,163 vehicles, down 6% from the corresponding period a year ago.
On a regional basis, Asia recorded the highest deliveries at 4,523 vehicles from 1,120 vehicles, which is an increase of 384%. Deliveries in North America, however, were down 15% to 1, 854 vehicles from 2,304 vehicles last year.
Deliveries of Light duty trucks reached the highest at 3,653 vehicles, up 209% from 1,008 vehicles in the prior year. Deliveries of Medium duty ones rose 115% to 2,538 vehicles from 1,251 vehicles in 2007. Deliveries of Heavy-duty trucks rose only 31% to 15,909 vehicles from 12,054 vehicles last year.
