Foton Adjusts National Production Distribution
www.chinatrucks.com. Information from Foton shows that the adjustment of production distribution and structure since Oct. 2012 has been basically completed. Presently, the productions of MP-X, View and Midi have been transferred from Beijing to Shandong; pick-ups have been transferred to Guangdong. Beijing, hereto, will be further positioned as the high-end vehicle base and the management and operation center.
Foton has production bases in 9 provinces currently; however, the primary sales market is not in Beijing. Therefore, the company began to transfer the models produced in Beijing to other regions since last year to narrow the gap with the targeted market.
It is reported that Shandong province has long been a primary production region for Foton and the transfer of MPVs would improve the resource efficiency and win more space for more projects in Beijing.
The production line was combed within the adjustment period. 11 headquarters have been established for each product category, which would be a move to improve management efficiency. Beijing will be the primary production base for high-end light truck, MPV and passenger vehicle after the adjustment. The research institute and new energy production base in Shahe headquarter will be further expanded, meanwhile, a passenger vehicle power battery base will be established.
