304 BYD Electric Heavy Trucks Are Shipped to India
INDIA(chinatrucks.org) -- 304 BYD Q1R heavy-duty electric trucks have recently shipped in batches to India, which are expected to arrive in February and will be used for port operation.

Adani Group is an Indian multinational corporation and also the largest port developer and operator in India. These BYD Q1R electric heavy-duty trucks will be shipped to Adani Group's four ports in India as planned and five of them have arrived at Katupalli port and started operation. These Q1R in service have been highly recognized by senior officers of the Adani Group for its stable, efficient, and emission-free performance. Adani Group said that it would send in an additional order later and put in all the 400 electric tractors it ordered from BYD into service by 2023.
The Q1 delivered is an all-electric tractor with a gross combination weight rating (GCWR) of 40 tonnes. The BYD Q1 is powered by an electric motor that has an output of 282 BHP and 450 Nm. It uses a 255 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery that can be charged in 7 hours using a 40 kW AC charger or in just 2.5 hours with a 120 kW DC charger. The Q1 is said to have a range of 200 km on a single charge and can reach a top speed of 85 km/h. It is equipped with pneumatic disc brakes with regenerative braking and ABS.
This is said to be the first large-scale order of electric heavy trucks for port operations in India. Zhang Jie, Deputy General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Automotive Sales Division and General Manager of India Branch, said. “There is a high and complex demand for electric trucks in India and commercial vehicles are an integral part of BYD's growing business in India. With determination to “set sail again”, BYD will tap the potential demand of customers and build a more professional and dedicated team to provide Indian consumers with most trusted products and technical solutions.”
Adani Group aims to fully electrify its entire truck fleet by 2025 to enable sustainable, zero-emission port operations. Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD Asia Pacific Automotive Sales Division, said: “The large-scale adoption of BYD’s new energy technology at Adani port would push for the early achievement of carbon neutrality in India. These vehicles are a great demonstration for BYD to develop its electric truck business in India and will be an important starting point for its Asia-Pacific’s overseas electric truck business.”
