FOTON Unveils Smart EV Ecosystem to Boost Latin America EV Market
As the global commercial vehicle industry moves toward low-carbon and zero-emission goals, FOTON Motor is stepping up its efforts to bring electric vehicles to Latin America — not just by exporting products, but by building a complete local ecosystem.
At the 2025 FOTON Latin America Partner Conference on April 8, Chairman Chang Rui said:
“In 2024, Chinese brand vehicle sales are expected to reach 23 million units, making up over 70% of the domestic market. Now is the time for Chinese automakers to go global. FOTON is building a global system that covers R&D, manufacturing, and service, using our full range of commercial vehicles and advanced technologies like smart connectivity and autonomous driving.”
FOTON’s Vice President and President of FOTON International, Fu Jun, added:
“Latin America is a key market for FOTON. We’re working with partners to build local production, promote EVs, and explore new business models. Our target: sell 50,000 vehicles per year in Latin America by 2025, and 150,000 by 2030, becoming the region’s commercial vehicle leader.”
Launching the IECO Smart Ecosystem for Greener Logistics
At the event, FOTON unveiled its full lineup of new energy vehicles for Latin America — including electric and hybrid trucks, vans, buses, and pickups — all customized to meet local regulations and user needs. Powered by FOTON’s latest modular and platform-based technologies, these vehicles support multiple energy solutions, including battery-electric, hybrid, and hydrogen fuel. FOTON also officially introduced its global smart ecosystem brand, “IECO,” which delivers green logistics solutions through localized technology, services, and operations tailored for the Latin American market.
IECO stands for Intelligent, Clean, Efficient, and Open. It covers the full life cycle of commercial vehicles. FOTON has been developing EV tech since 2003 and now offers a complete new energy solution: from battery, motor, and electronic control, to vehicle leasing, energy supply, charging, and even battery recycling and swap stations. In Thailand, FOTON already provides solar-powered charging and battery swapping services.
IECO combines FOTON's technologies with business resources to offer full-service solutions — including leasing, smart connectivity, spare parts, and second-hand vehicles. Its two key focuses are electric powertrains and smart service systems, helping push the transport industry toward zero emissions.
Going Local in Brazil, Expanding Across Latin America
FOTON is pursuing both global expansion and green technology. Its full range of electric and hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles is now sold in 45 countries. Many models, such as electric light trucks and vans, are certified for the EU market.
FOTON’s EVs are already running in major markets:
Europe: Electric trucks and sanitation vehicles in Germany, Italy, Poland
Latin America: Over 1,400 electric buses delivered in Chile
Asia-Pacific: Main electric bus supplier in Malaysia, first to serve the Singapore-Malaysia route
Others: EVs and hydrogen buses in Malta, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, India, Egypt, and more
FOTON is also building global partnerships. It works with top battery and charging companies like CATL and Teld to create a “Super Power Ecosystem,” upgrading from product exports to full-service solutions that include green energy and smart infrastructure.
Driving the Future with Tech and Ecosystem
FOTON is now moving beyond vehicles — it’s building an entire electric vehicle ecosystem. From IECO to global alliances, FOTON is combining advanced technology with full-service networks to help countries reduce emissions and upgrade their transport systems.
With customized EV products and integrated systems — covering vehicles, energy, roads, and cloud platforms — FOTON is bringing clean, smart logistics to Latin America and the world. It’s not just exporting Chinese vehicles — it’s sharing Chinese innovation and helping shape a greener global future.
